Last week, a number of Rootshell Platform’s developers went to SymfonyCon at the one and only Disneyland Paris!

SymfonyCon is the first conference the engineering team have attended since last year’s PHPScotland in Edinburgh.

Conferences like SymfonyCon are a way we like to invest in our staff, learn new skills, meet and exchange ideas with other members of the PHP community, and most importantly, a way to bond with fellow team members.

At this year’s SymfonyCon, we used this opportunity to investigate and implement a very exciting piece of software that will improve how we develop Rootshell.

One of this year’s talks was around FrankenPHP, a new web server built specially for PHP. FrankenPHP will significantly improve the performance of PHP applications in a number of ways, including real-time capabilities and increasing the speed at which web pages load by 30%.

During the conference we implemented it into a new bleeding edge R&D project for Rootshell.

While FrankenPHP is not officially ready for production, we now understand how it works and have integrated it with one of our projects. Meaning that when FrankenPHP is ready to be used in production level products, we’ll be ready – giving us a head start on our competition.

A bonus of going to SymfonyCon this year is exclusive access to many of the rides at Disneyland Paris. A good reward for our hardworking team. We also include an additional day in Paris for staff to explore the city of Paris if they so choose.

This is an option we include whenever our engineers go to a conference, so they can explore a city they might not normally have the chance to see.

In summary, Rootshell love to use conferences to give engineers the opportunity to learn new skills that help make Rootshell even better, socialise with fellow members of the PHP community, and relax as part of a team. We look forward to doing more of these in the near year!
